TIP OF THE MONTH
DON'T DISCONNECT THAT BATTERY...

Many new cars today are built with anti-theft stereo systems, which include a feature that will render the stereo inoperative if stolen. If the power source to the stereo is cut with the anti-theft feature activated, the stereo will not work, even if the power is immediately re-connected.

As the vehicle owner, this means you will have to be very careful about disconnecting your battery or allowing it to go completely dead.

If your vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft stereo, you will have an ID code that you can use to either turn off the security feature or re-activate the stereo if power is cut off. This code, along with instructions on using it, will be in your owner’s manual.

Take the time to understand how your anti-theft stereo works before replacing the battery or disconnecting the battery cables.
